AJAX'S CARL LEWIS, AWARD-WINNING

AJAX's Carl Lewis has been a dedicated employee for nearly 30 years. Not only is Carl a knowledgeable Senior Account Manager, but he is also an award-winning Taxidermist. Taxidermy, for those who don't know, "is the art of preparing, stuffing and mounting the skins of animals with a lifelike effect". Over the past 10 years, Carl has been perfecting his taxidermy skills and in 2010, won 1st Place in the Professional Division in South Carolina with his Brook Trout submission. The following year, Carl took 2nd Place in the Professional Division with his Northern Pike submission. This year, Carl is off to a great start with eight awards, many including 1st Place. Carl will be participating in the National Competition this May in North Carolina. We wish him all the best in his bid to become a National Champion Taxidermist.

At AJAX, we have worked on many aspects of Lean Accounting over the years, but recently we have taken steps toward becoming a completely Lean enterprise and achieving Simple Excellence in this category. Our training in Lean Accounting during 2011, by a world-renowned expert, has changed our thinking on what to measure and why. The next logical step in our Lean development is to re-organize AJAX into Value Streams, so that we can clearly identify any potential waste and where it is occurring. We have implemented Value Streams, managed by Value Stream Managers, earlier this year and are already seeing improvement. We are customer-focused, and the benefit of implementing the Value Streams is solely directed to you, our customer.
Theses Value Streams have been divided based on ring rolling capabilities. Value Stream 1, managed by Bob Komisarski, produces larger rings. Value Stream 2, managed by Peggy Kirkendoll, produces smaller rings. The Value Streams enable each Value Stream Manager to remain centrally focused on his or her respective product line. This allows for quick fixes to bottleneck areas, stream lining of processes and focuses on quality and customer service. |
Our new Machine Shop is progressing nicely. The major move into precision machining of our rings has us very excited about this new expansion. The Machine Shop will be a state-of-the-art facility, having the capabilities of turning, milling and drilling to cover a complete range of ring sizes. The Machine Shop was put in place for a good, Lean reason: Reduction of Lead Time. Our goal is to supply machined rings to our customers in the shortest time possible and feel that machining rings on our premises, with a fully-integrated, machining facility is the best way to achieve this.
The photo above shows progress to date. Our Machine Shop will be fully functional by mid-May. We look forward to supplying machined rings to our customers who are in need of this service.
